There are two ways to do that: (1) using business cards; (2) using a signature file. Your signature file is actually your business card on the Internet. You will want to know how to be effective with both. This means that The Master Networker series covers basic networking principles with the purpose of developing a firm foundation for networking. "The Master Networker" will be void of information that will thrust you to a 90,000 income within 90 days or a 15,000 monthly income without doing any work. Why? Because that isn't how networking works. I've been in networking for twelve years, and I have yet to meet anyone who has obtained networking riches without working for it . . .especially 90,000 in ninety days. This series is about the real world of networking. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ********************************************************************** T H E A R T O F B U I L D I N G A B U S I N E S S THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUR SIGNATURE FILE WHAT ARE THEY: Consider them a business card and a subtle method of advising people that you have a product or service to offer. For those with email addresses only, additional information can be requested.Those with Internet access can view the web page announced in the sig file. This makes it easier for the recipient to reply to your message with an interactive link. HOW ARE THEY CREATED: Email software normally allows the creation of one or more sig files. Pegasus: Go to "File" "Preferences" "Signatures" Select one of the signature sets and create. Save it on your way out of the task. Eudora: Go to "Tools" "Signature". Netscape: Go to "Options" "Mail and News Preferences" "Identity" "Signature File Window" "Browse" In this case, you must create your sig file in a word processing package. Most people have notepad and the sig file can be created there and accessed through the browse function. Name the file "sig.txt" The other way is to have the file in a word processing file and when needed, copy and paste it on the bottom of your correspondence. NOTE: Most software works in the manner described.You will have to play with your software until you can easily create the sig file. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST: Many, "not all" software packages will show the email address and web site in color with a hypertext link, allowing a person to click on it and bring up the web page or the new email message box ready to send. BUT, you MUST use the proper formatting for them to be in color, i.e This set should be highlighted: http://www.multi-level.com/millennium/wjc.html Mailto:carrollw@cadvision.com This set should not. www.multi-level.com/millennium/wjc.html email:carrollw@cadvision.com Nor should the balance of this http:// www.multi-level.com/millennium/wjc.html 1.Please note that some people let the http part end a sentence with the balance of the URL on the next line. Only the http portion is in color and clicking on it will not provide the proper link. Mailto: carrollw@cadvision.com vs Mailto:carrollw@cadvision.com 2.The first Mailto: address is not completely highlighted. However removing the space between Mailto: and carrollw, highlights it. If you are using Pegasus and you double click in Pegasus, it will bring up a new message box with your address already entered. Note the third one, nothing. The "http:" & "mailto:" always need to be on the same line with the message. It is also necessary to have the colon ( : ) sign there. MAJOR CONSIDERATIONS: Remember,if your software does not show color and allow the linking directly to the web, the other persons software most likely can. Your sig file doesn't need to be an advertisement. Online people are readers and want information, just enough that they will want to contact you. That is when a relationship starts and you can provide more detailed information on the products, services or business opportunity. If you have what they want, you now have a customer or distributor. Keep your signature file short, say within four lines. Less is more. Preferably use only one sig file. You often see many with countless URL's. It looks cluttered and confuses your reader. When composing any email message, make sure that you are not online. The time charges are not necessary since your software will save any messages to be sent at a later time. GUIDELINES FOR CREATING YOUR SIG FILE: 1. Be Brief: This is not a billboard ad. State who you are in simple and clear language. Keep it short. 2. Contact information: Phone and fax numbers can be included. Always include your email address and /or your web URL. 3. Product description: A very brief benefit. Some folks add a quote instead on a particular philosophy of life.
