Don't tell my daughter as she is happy to take her "new" 486 computer to college with her this coming school year! She's excited and so am I. I had to include an article on sharing one's excitement of a new businesopportunity with family, friends and other close acquaintences. When firsstarted out in networking, I was excited to share my new findings witspecial people, but when I found apathy I thought I must be the only person having that problem. It didn't take long to find out the "apathy" virus was all over so for those of you who are just getting involved in networking and for those of you just starting, I want to provide you with some information before you find out the way I did. I know this article will help you deal with family members and friends. ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> This is a reminder that the Master Networker series is purposely set up for the beginning networker or for those considering networking or even for networkers who have yet to be successful in networking. This means that The Master Networker series covers basic networking principles with the purpose of developing a firm foundation for networking. "The Master Networker" will be void of information that will thrust you to a $90,000 income within 90 days or a $15,000 monthly income without doing any work. Why? Because that isn't how networking works. I've been in networking for thirteen years, and I have yet to meet anyone who has obtained networking riches without working for it . . .especially $90,000 in ninety days. This series is about the real world of networking. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> T H E A R T O F B U I L D I N G A B U S I N E S S SHARING YOUR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY EXCITEMENT WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS AND PERSONAL ACQUAINTANCES . . . WATCH OUT! Are you excited about your new venture . . . your new opportunity . . . so excited you can't wait to share it with your family, friends and personal acquaintances? Well, get ready. You've heard the saying, "with friends like you, I don't need enemies." If you haven't approached your family and friends before, regarding a business opportunity, get ready because the chances are you will be shocked! In fact, you might be more than shocked; you might be devastated. YOU'RE CRAZY . . . GET A REAL JOB . . . YOU'RE INVOLVED IN A PYRAMID SCHEME? I've been told by people when they approached their family and friends, they get comments like "you're crrazy" or "get a real job" or "I can't believe you are involved in a pyramid scheme." I had one guy tell me, "please don't tell my wife I joined, because she'll beat me." Such is family and friend support . . . and these are the people who love you the most. SO WHY? It's called VISION! Not everyone shares the same vision you do. Moreover they are in a visionless cycle of going to work, coming home complaining about going to work and then going to work again. They lack the vision of doing anything about it. I remember when I was able to quit early from my job, I just knew most of my friends and family members were going to really get interested in what I was doing . . . NOT! They were either too busy with their own lives or they didn't have confidence enough in themselves to do what I was doing. What I am saying is don't expect or depend on family members and friends to be as excited as you are about your new business opportunity and in some cases be prepared for remarks or actions that could discourage you if you were not prepared for such. If, on the other hand, you have family members who are business minded and certainly into network marketing, then by all means share your excitement with them. WHAT TO DO INSTEAD Instead of going to your non-networking/MLM friends regarding the business opportunity, go to them with the products. I have to assume one of the reasons you chose the company you are promoting is because of their excellent products. Share the products via samples, catalogs, articles or product brochures. Your family members and friends will be more likely to support you through use of the products. Ask them to try some products out to get their opinion if they find the same thing you found regarding the products. If you mention the business, do so only in a sentence that relates that you are now representing xyz company with these products. As your family members and friends use the products, you will be able to identify those who LOVE the products and at that point you might mention (1) how they can get the products at wholesale; (2) how they can earn an income providing the products to others. "Tread lightly, but carry a big stick" . . .so to speak. THE IMPORTANCE OF LOCAL SUPPORT I don't want to downplay the importance of having a local support group. It just might not be your family members and friends. It is so important to have a local group of people whom you can interact with . . . a group of people who have similar interests and similar aspirations and yes . . . a similar vision. The best local support group you could be part of would be one in which all are involved in the same opportunity because not only would you have support, but you would also have local training. You need someone you can interact with in those times of excitement . . . in those times of being down about your business . . . in those times of frustration . . . and even in those times of now knowing what to do. An alternative would be to form or be part of a group of "business-minded networkers." I've always considered forming such a local group, but haven't taken time to do so. Consider the sharing and caring that could go on, but in a case like this, basic ground rules would be important if you don't wan it to turn into a "who can outsell who" group. The Internet can offer you a support group as well. There are discussion groups available to subscribe to that offers member help and support. I know of one such group called Govinda and there was another called MLMTalk. There may be others available that you know of and anyone reading this is welcome to inform me of any other such groups. I have found that most members of these discussion groups are very caring people and you really get to know them quite well as your interact daily with them through the talk group. Often times you will find independent representatives of certain companies who form their own discussion groups or bulletin boards for their downline only. This is a great asset as it, not only provides emotional support, but also valuable information on how to effectively build that particular business. IN SUMMARY In summary, I just want to prepare you for what you might expect when you approach family members and friends. You might be lucky and receive a very warm reception and if you are extrememly lucky, you will have people who know you show the same kind of excitement you have. If you don't receive that support or excitement, you must look beyond your family and friends . . . at least at the beginning. Look and seek for others who have a similar vision as you. Business-minded people is a good group to start with, but running ads in local papers and publications will identify people who have a vision because they will respond to your ad. Don't let that "high" of excitement turn into a "low" of depression. It won't if you prepare yourself and if you start out with sharing only the products, I think you will find that goes along way in getting family and friend support for your venture.
