I thought, Wow . . what a cycle we have been through . . a 360 degree cycle! I asked Kristi to expound on that which she did in this week's article . . .Stay At Home Moms and Dads. I managed to give my two cents worth at the end of the article. It's definitely something for working moms and dads to think about and consider. If you have any comments, Kristin can be reached by email: emailto:Ultimate@Ultimate.org ><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> This is a reminder that the Master Networker series is purposely set up for the beginning networker or for those considering networking or even for networkers who have yet to be successful in networking. This means that The Master Networker series covers basic networking principles with the purpose of developing a firm foundation for networking. "The Master Networker" will be void of information that will thrust you to a $90,000 income within 90 days or a $15,000 monthly income without doing any work. Why? Because that isn't how networking works. I've been in networking for thirteen years, and I have yet to meet anyone who has obtained networking riches without working for it . . .especially $90,000 in ninety days. This series is about the real world of networking. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> S T A Y A T H O M E M O M S A N D D A D S Can I AFFORD to Work From Home? by Kristi Rushing mailto:Ultimate@Ultimate.org As you leave for work each morning, and drop your children off at a day care center, do you worry about whether or not you are doing the right thing? Do you really wish you could afford to stay home with your children? Are you one of the thousands of young parents who would truly rather be a Stay At Home Mom or Dad than to be going off to a J.O.B.? When I was a young mother I know how much I wanted to stay home and be with my children -- how I would have given anything to be able to quit that job and be a homemaker. But economics made it so I HAD to take a job, or our family would not survive. Or WAS it necessary for me to work? If I had known then what I know now, I might have been able to make a few changes in our life and been able to do what I really wanted to do. Could the attitude of women in the workplace have come because they were forced to go to an outside job for economic reasons? And then maybe they justified that work by saying they wanted to be themselves, express themselves, be equal with men, etc. Which came first -- the chicken or the egg? Did women demand an equal place in the workplace because they felt they had to express themselves, or did they justify their jobs by saying they had as much a right to work and succeed as any old guy? I contend that more women would PREFER to stay home and raise their children than anyone realizes. But these women are trapped in JOBS to help their family survive economically, and as a consequence, they justify their working away from home by saying they are fulfilling themselves. And look at the number of MEN who want to work from home. I know a lot of men of all ages who have a goal of WORKING FROM HOME. They want more freedom and want to be there for their family. And I know many who have ACHIEVED that goal. There are even some men who are working out of home while their wives are at that away from the house J.O.B. Mr. Mom DOES exist. If You Like Your JOB -- Quit Reading NOW! If you truly love your work and want to be out in the workaday world, just ignore this article and stay out there and do what you truly want. If you would really rather stay home and be your own boss -- please read on. The first thing you need to do is make a financial evaluation. Grab a pencil and paper and do some figuring. How much money do you bring into the home? Start with your gross earnings in one column -- then in the other list your WORK expenses. List your taxes deducted from your paycheck, and the FICA, and any other work related expenses that come right out of your check. Now go on with some more expenses which are there only because you are working. Child care. What is it costing you to find good care for your children? The extra car and gasoline and insurance and tires and other expenses needed to get you to work (or other transportation). Our insurance costs, if the car was used to drive to work, were substantially higher than if our car was simply a second vehicle. Figure the difference in rates. How much do you spend on special clothing for work? Be sure to include those stockings that seem to need replacing every few days? And figure all those suits, ties, dress shirts -- or work boots, overalls, special tools, etc. A few other things you may not be thinking of. You get home from work dead tired, and everyone is hungry. You often stop on the way and grab a prepared meal, or maybe take the family out to the fast food place. How much is that costing you? Even when you do cook at home, how often do you buy specially prepared foods because it saves time in cooking. How much more do they cost than the same food prepared from scratch if you have the time to cook it. We Deserve Pampering Women who have been working hard all week deserve to have hair and nails done at least once a week. That's usually extra time at the child care center for the kids, as they sure can't go to the beauty shop with you. That lawn needs to be mowed, and the leaves raked. But after a long week at work, you feel justified to hire someone to do it for you. Heck, your free time is valuable so why not? And you definitely don't have time to get out a hose and wash your car -- something you can have fun doing as a family -- so you take that car to the car wash and fork out some more cash. And of course every day you are at work, you must eat lunch. Chances are you are far from home, so you eat out often. If you brown bag it you are out of place -- the others go out, so you feel you need to join them for lunch. And if your child gets the sniffles, that is an immediate trip to the doctor. The child care center won't take a sick child, and you can't afford to miss work, so you need to get that child over a simple cold as fast as possible. The doctor, to make you happy, will prescribe antibiotics. Now your child is over the sniffles fast -- but also on a cycle that will go on all winter of being sick every couple weeks, and needing another trip to the doctor, and another round of antibiotics. That's because those antibiotics not only kill the bad germs, but every good germ in the body. The poor kid has his natural defenses killed by good intentions, so a couple weeks later, when exposed to another germ, he is sick again. If he had his natural immunity and resistance built up, he would have fought off that germ when exposed. What is Your NET Contribution? OK -- with all those costs of working on one side, and your gross on the other side -- do your figuring and see how much NET you contribute to the family coffers by holding down that wonderful J.O.B. The amount you have CLEAR after that figuring is what you truly need from a home business to contribute to the family income at the same level as with an outside JOB. Is it something you can do with a part time job worked out of your home? Is it maybe a couple hundred dollars a month -- maybe even $1,000 a month? It depends, of course, on the amount of your gross salary, plus the cost of child care in your area. Now -- find yourself a good company you can work with -- and join a solid network marketing company with a team who will work with you. I know you have a computer and can build a business online -- otherwise you wouldn't be able to read this article, since it is online :) You have a goal of a certain amount of income needed to replace that J.O.B., but my guess is that the amount NEEDED is nowhere NEAR what your salary is right now. Start that MLM part time -- if you have good team support, you can do it. Have that reasonable goal you are working toward. Do that business part time and build that income until you are at a point you can make a choice. Then you can decide to keep working it part time, or go for it and quit the J.O.B. and stay home with the kids and build that business even more. Where Were They When I Was Young? I sure wish there had been network marketing companies when I was a young mother like there are now. Back then you couldn't have built a business online. You needed to purchase a large inventory; knock on doors to market that inventory; hold meetings; draw circles; and it took a lot to make a few bucks. Now you can build a business online -- the company will take the order, collect the payment, ship the product, and pay you a commission. You can train your downline with the help of nationwide conference calls, online systems -- list serves, chat rooms, email, websites. You can work at your business online when it suits you. As your baby sleeps, you can get online and chat, or promote your website, or answer email inquiries. You can make that extra income so much easier now than years ago. So if you REALLY want to stay home instead of being out there in the world of working women (or men) -- do some figuring about how much income you NEED, clear of those costs of working -- and see if a good network marketing company can help you achieve that dream of being home with your family more. If you're a single parent, the same figuring is needed. How much will you save on work transportation, work clothing (it's so much fun to make money at home, even in our PJs), child care, fast foods, etc. Then figure how much EXTRA income would make your life easier, and how much would be needed to allow you to work full time from home. Change Your Life Now choose a good company and support team and get started with the home business. It is probably going to take you two to five years to build that part time business to the point it can be full time for you -- the sooner you get started, the sooner you will reach that goal. In a few years you will then have the CHOICE -- work from home, or keep that business going for that extra income you would love. Single parent, or married -- if you want to change your life, find an MLM which fits your needs, present lifestyle and time restrictions. Look for products you can market, and especially look for that team support which will be so imporant to a successful part time start to this industry. Then GET STARTED. A Man's View Professor Lon Lindsey adds a man's perspective to this subject: Kris: Great message! Aren't times a "crazy" cycle. I remember when mothers stayed home, but somehow society made them feel unfulfilled . . . or maybe husbands made them feel unfulfilled so they went in the work place. Did they go there for more income or from a sense of worth? Hmmm . . . an interesting question. You see, the only thing missing forty years ago was the ability to work out of one's home . . . thus the ability to feel good about doing something AND making money at feeling good about doing something. Look what is happening now . . . people want to be able to be home with their children. Let's not leave out the desire for the "at home" dad. At one time society said "Dads must go out and work and moms must stay home with the children." Now society has finally realized that it is okay for dad to stay home with the kids . . . but now dad can have a business out of his home at the same time! What an opportunity! Guess what? No longer do we "at home entrepreneurs" need to present a "high rise" office image for our at-home business. In fact, the going image is being able to be home in your shorts, T-shirt and sandals with your kids as you build your business empire! Hmmm . . . quite appealing to say the least . . . not to mention going out to a movie at 2:00 P.M. or taking the kids to the zoo while your business is still working for you! Hush! Let's whisper . . . don't want the kids to hear us . . . we don't need work-at-home 25 year old kids still living with their parents . Oh well, great article and when you put it in terms of what it costs to go to work . . it should make people think what it really is they want. Go for it!
